Prostate Health: PSA Testing for Men Over 45

Prostate conditions become increasingly common as men age. By 50, a significant percentage of men experience prostate issues. Regular PSA testing helps detect problems early when treatment is most effective.

    What Is PSA?

PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) is a protein produced by the prostate gland. Elevated levels may indicate:

    • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) — enlarged prostate
    • Prostatitis — prostate infection/inflammation
    • Prostate cancer — requires further investigation

    PSA Normal Ranges

    • Under 50 years: Below 2.5 ng/mL
    • 50-59 years: Below 3.5 ng/mL
    • 60-69 years: Below 4.5 ng/mL
    • 70+ years: Below 6.5 ng/mL

Note: Elevated PSA doesn't always mean cancer. Your doctor interprets results in context.

    Symptoms to Watch

    • Frequent urination (especially at night)
    • Difficulty starting or stopping urine flow
    • Weak urine stream
    • Pain during urination
    • Blood in urine or semen

    Who Should Get PSA Testing?

    • All men over 50 (annually)
    • Men over 45 with family history of prostate cancer
    • Men experiencing urinary symptoms
    • African-descent men (higher risk)

    Early Detection Saves Lives

Prostate cancer caught early has a 5-year survival rate above 98%. Regular screening is the key.

PSA is included in our ADC Supreme Panel. For standalone testing, book at Aarvak Diagnostics.
